About EN 1634-1

All our internal fire doors are tested to EN 1634-1, the European standard for fire resistance.

We’ve conducted over 100 EN 1634-1 fire tests across a wide range of designs and configurations, backed by comprehensive Field of Application (FOA) reports. These reports demonstrate the scope of our certification and offer detailed technical evidence, something many manufacturers can’t provide.

Correct installation of fire doors is essential. Even fire doors tested to the highest standard will fail if they are not fitted and installed correctly. Deanta recommend that all fire doors are installed by a trained and competent professional.

All Deanta fire doors are tested as a complete system, including frame, hardware, seals, and configuration. To maintain certification:

  • Installation must follow parameters set out in the Field of Application (FOA)
  • The door must be fitted using the correct frame type, fixings, and certified hardware
  • Seals and components must be placed precisely as tested

Door Hardware

Every component matters. That’s why Deanta tests its fire doors with a wide variety of hardware configurations – ensuring full compatibility and certification under EN 1634-1.

The Field of Application (FOA) provides guidelines on what hardware can be paired with our fire doors.

Unlike other manufacturers, we’ve tested locks and latches without intumescent protection, reducing installation time and cost – without compromising on safety. However we still recommend the use of intumescent pads for locks and hinges for FD30 and FD60 fire doors.

Hinges

We specify BS EN Grade 13 certified butt hinges for all of our FD30 rated doors.

Approved Deanta butt bearing hinge spec:

  • Size: 90-110 x 30-35 (additional size available)
  • Intumescent pads – details given on datasheets
  • Placement and quantity: Minimum 3, 120-180 from head of leaf, 150-250 from base of leaf, and 3rd placed centrally – 4 hinges are required for doors over 2400

Deanta fire doors are third party accredited by BM Trada’s Q-Mark scheme – a leading certification body in the UK. Using the Q-Mark certificate guarantees that Deanta manufactures its fire doors for consistency, traceability, and verified fire resistance. PAS24 Doorsets

Selected Deanta doorsets are tested to PAS24 standards, a high security benchmark for enhanced internal door protection. Being certified by PAS24 means our doorsets are tested to rigorous physical standards, involving physical attacks.

What is a fire door?

A fire door is a specially designed internal door that resists the spread of fire and smoke for a specific period (typically 30 or 60 minutes). It’s a life-saving safety feature required by law in many buildings.

How do I know if I need a fire door?

Fire doors are typically required in certain areas of homes (like between a garage and house) and in all multi-occupancy buildings or commercial properties. Your architect, builder, or building inspector can advise based on current regulations. Please refer to the Government website for further info – Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022

Are Deanta fire doors certified?

Yes, all Deanta fire doors are third-party certified, which means they’ve been independently tested and verified to meet safety standards. We’re committed to full compliance and transparency.

What does FD30 or FD60 mean?

FD30 means the door is fire-resistant for 30 minutes; FD60 for 60 minutes. These ratings are based on rigorous testing under controlled conditions.

Can I cut or trim a fire door?

Yes – but only within strict limits to maintain the fire certification.

  • FD30 (FEATURE) fire doors can be trimmed by up to 30mm in total (maximum 15mm from any edge).
  • FD60 (FEATURE) fire doors have much tighter tolerances and can only be trimmed by 1mm per edge.
  • FD30 (FLUSH) fire doors can be trimmed by up to 6mm in total (maximum 3mm from any edge).
  • FD60 (FLUSH) fire doors can be trimmed by up to 2mm in total (maximum 1mm from any edge).

Any trimming beyond these limits can invalidate the door’s certification and compromise safety. Always follow Deanta’s specific installation guidelines and speak to your supplier or installer before making any adjustments.

Do fire doors come with glass panels?

Yes, and at Deanta, all our glass fire doors use fire-rated glass. We handle all glazing in-house and use Pilkington fire glass, ensuring every component meets fire resistance standards.

Can I paint or varnish a fire door?

Yes, but only with approved finishes and as per our guidelines. Incorrect finishes can impact the fire performance. We offer prefinished options for peace of mind. If you have a specific question related to finishing your fire door, please reach out to our customer service team.

What hardware is needed for a fire door?

Hinges, closers are essential hardware and are required as they play a vital role in ensuring the fire door performs as required. Latches, locks, environmental seals, viewers and letterboxes are optional.

Do I need door frames as well?

Yes, a fire door is only effective when installed as part of a complete fire doorset which includes; frames, seals, and hardware. Deanta offers fully certified doorsets for this reason.

What is the difference between a fire door and a fire doorset?

A fire door is just the leaf; a doorset includes the door, frame, ironmongery, seals, and certification as a complete tested unit. Deanta fire doorsets are fully tested and compliant.
